Filing status for divorce

I'm in California. My divorce was started in July of 2020, submitted in September, and I received final court sign off in November 2020. On the final divorce paperwork it state that my date of divorce was January 10, 2021. I have a child, but are agreement states that I won't claim her for this year. For tax filing purposes what status can I use?

You should file Married Filling Jointly or Married Filling Separately.

If on the final divorce paperwork it state that the date of divorce is January 10, 2021. You are still married as of 12/31/2020.

If you do plan to file separately, and per the agreement you do not take the child. You would file as Married Filling Separately, and your Ex would file as Head of Household.

For 2021 you will be able to file as Single.
