How do I file online if my stepson’s medical coverage is by his biological father under the Marketplace (who receives the 1095-A) yet has agreed to allow his us (ex-wife and I) to claim the son as our dependent?

We did this last year electronically through Turbo Tax, but the IRS requested the 1095-A before processing our refund.  How do we electronically include the 1095 and how do we answer the questions since we are not getting the 1095 deduction?

If you are divorced or separated and claiming a child on your tax return as a dependent, but the other parent obtained health insurance for the child through the Marketplace, then you will need to obtain a copy of the Form 1095-A from the other parent. This form will be REQUIRED to prepare your federal income tax return.

Here's how to enter your 1095-A in TurboTax:

    1. Open your return if you don't already have it open.
    2. In the search box, type 1095-A and select the Jump to link at the top of the search results.
    3. Answer Yes on the Did you receive Form 1095-A for your health insurance plan? screen and Continue.
    4. Enter your 1095-A info on the next screen and select Continue.
