Filing Taxes with an EIN Number for an Estate Fund

I am the trustee for a fund where the beneficiaries are my niece and nephew.  I have an EIN number for that fund.  Do I need to file a separate return for that EIN number or include it with my return?  I already filed my return; do I need to do an amendment on that return or do a new one?  They both took out all their money and this is the last step to close it all out.  Overall shows all funds were at a loss but there are dividends listed in boxes 1a, 1b, 3, and 5.

If you have an EIN issued for the estate fund, then you should be filing a return for that EIN to report the income received by the fund as well as the distributions to the beneficiaries.  This type of income should not be reported on your personal tax return since it was not your income.

The letter from the IRS that you received when registering for the EIN will tell you what type of return should be filed.

oh snap.  You are correct.  It says that I am supposed to file form 1041 by April 15, 2023.  I didn't do that and the form that i received for 2023 said that it was not reported to the IRS.  But this form 1099-div says that it was reported to the IRS.  What should i do now?

File a form 1041 for 2024 as soon as possible to put a stop to the late fees.

Here is a link to TurboTax Business to file a form 1041.
