Question

For your health insurance, do you have to add your 1095-b information and if so how?

No you do not have to add your 1095-B information.  Form 1095-B is used to report certain information to the IRS and to taxpayers about individuals who are covered by minimum essential coverage and therefore are not liable for the individual shared responsibility payment.

Please note:  While the federal individual responsibility payment has been suspended,

These states have individual mandates with penalties for non-compliance:

  • California (effective in 2020)
  • Rhode Island (effective in 2020)
  • The District of Columbia
  • Massachusetts,
  • New Jersey, and
  • Vermont (Vermont’s mandate takes effect in 2020, but it does not include a penalty for non-compliance, so it’s essentially the same as the current federal mandate).

You still do not need the 1095-B for the state return, but TurboTax will ask about your health coverage,
