Question

Foreign Tax Income - Hong Kong and US

Hi, I have lived in NJ and worked in NY for half year in 2023 (I am a green card holder), then I moved to Hong Kong. I checked all of the possible tax exemptions/credits, and it seems like I would not be qualified for The Physical Presence Test or The Bona Fide Resident Test. As for the Foreign Tax Credit, I have not yet filed tax for Hong Kong.  Additionally, I cannot claim exemption for missing few months of NJ healthcare since that also requires me to be a bona fide resident...

My question is, I have $70k+ Hong Kong income, and Turbox Tax is showing that I owe about $15k for Federal and NJ tax in total. Is that normal? or did I not fill out everything correctly?

Yes.  It is possible depending on how much your Hong Kong income is?
