Form 5695 Qualified solar electric property costs

I installed solar panels with a battery and was given a total price (not itemized) for the entire system.

I put that amount on Form 5695 line 1 Qualified solar electric property costs.

Line 5a and 5b refer to Qualified battery storage technology costs but I don't have a way to separate that cost from my system cost.

I checked yes for line 5a (greater than 3 kWh) and $0 in line 5b.

Will that work?

    No, I don't think so.

I think if you select Yes for 5a and enter zero for 5b, you might cause an error.

I suggest you contact the sales rep and ask for an estimate to report a cost for the battery.

If that is not possible, google the product you purchased and get an idea of the value or ask the firm that did the work what a replacement would cost.

Thanks KrisD15. I looked a little closer at my contract and found the itemized costs.
