Form 8332 custodial SSN

Hello,

I would like to claim my niece as a dependent who has SSN; however, neither of her custodial parents has SSN. In form 8332, they ask for custodial SSN next to their signature. Is it required or I can leave it blank?

i am not aware that in order to claim your niece on your taxes the other form needs to be completed.

If you claim your neice and no one else does, you should be fine. The problem arises if more than one person claims your niece, that form is evidence among the parties who actually agreed not to take claim the niece.
