Question

Form 8915 can not be removed from final return.

After researching this issue it seems this is nearly a yearly issue for TT. Even when all questions regarding disaster relief are no it generates a 8915 in the background that prevents you from efiling and can not be edited or deleted. I've gone over all the standard steps with 3 reps, reviewing the questions, clearing my cache, looking at available forms ad nauseum and nothing has been resolved. Would appreciated  some movement on this. If TT is generating the wrong forms how can I trust to mail them in. No canned responses please. token 252240. This has been going on for over a month.

Try this procedure originally posted by Tax Expert @JamesG1

Did you take a disaster distribution from your pension funds between 2018 and 2020? A disaster distribution allowed you to spread the distribution over three 1040 tax returns.

If so, IRS Form 8915 will be needed to complete your tax return but that form is not yet available.  See this TurboTax Help.

If you did not take a disaster distribution from your pension funds between 2018 and 2020, there may be a question that needs to be reviewed.  Follow these steps.

  • Go to Federal / Wages & Income.
  • Scroll down to Wrap up income.
  • Continue.
  • At the screen Did you take a disaster distribution at any time between 2018 and 2020? answer No

Now watch the headings under Federal closely.

  • When you are in Deductions & Credits
  • Scroll down and click on Wrap up tax breaks.
  • Then you are in Other Tax Situations.
  • Scroll down and click on Let's keep going.
  • Continue through to Federal Review

Are you reading the question or are you a bot that auto copy and pastes that information? There are several people I'm aware of that are having this exact issue and no one is addressing it. The 8915 form is populating in the background. No matter how many times I answer no to those question the form DOESNT show up in the list of forms but shows up when you print the return. This is preventing e-filing. WE need this form purged from the return. This is squarely a TT problem and not a user issue.

@hawthorne-locket I read the question and I posted a procedure that has helped many users with the exact same problem.  If you followed the procedure and you still cannot file your return due to the Form 8915 then you will have to contact TurboTax support for assistance.

See this TurboTax support FAQ for contacting support - https://ttlc.intuit.com/community/using-turbotax/help/what-is-the-turbotax-phone-number/00/25632

Did you ever solve this issue, im having the same issue now, so frustrating

January 30, 2023

It cleared up on its own. Several hours in chats on multiple occasions with TT reps did nothing.  Had me redoing the same steps over and over again. Worst customer service ever.

hawthorne-locket:  I feel your pain.  I am having the same issue.  I never (ever) requested disaster plan distribution.

Bb1111:  you noted you are having the same problem.  Has it been resolved?  If yes how was it resolved?

Same happened to me. I had to delete all of my husbands 1099-R forms. I saved return after each deletion then went to file and it was ready to file. I reentered each 1099-R and checked to see if it would get to the ready to file screen and each time it did.

Bottom line: delete all 1099-R's.

I'm having the same issue and I cannot e-file my returns without it.  I've said no to the 8915 and it still doesn't go away.  I'm so frustrated!!!!

This needs to be taken out of TT until it is fixed!  If we do not need the 8915 we should be able to file!

April 6, 2023

I tried deleting the form multiple times which never worked; I tried deleting the 1099-Rs as someone else suggested and that didn't take care of the problem either. I finally gave up and called Intuit. Some poor person called earlier today and it took them 3 HOURS to figure it out; thankfully their time spent with this problem helped me because it only took about two minutes.

Open the forms view on the left, delete the form that's above 8915-F - that deletes both that one and the dreaded 8915-F.

Good luck!

If you are experiencing this issue and are unable to get form 8915-F to delete from your return. Look for a worksheet relating to the form it may be titled  '8915e WKS'. Once this is deleted you will find that 8915-F was removed with it.

Where are these forms you all are referring to? I'm looking and cannot find a way to delete anything referring to 8915-F or 8915e WKS. I keep getting the error at the very end of trying to complete my filing. Please assist with more detail. Thank you

I found that one possible solution is to remove the 1099-R and then manually enter it. This should then remove the 8915-F from your forms and resolve this error.
