work two days a week with a group that considers me a contractor, and pays me on a 1099 basis.

I get paid every month and I am paid on an hourly basis. I’ve taken some CE courses and traveled and had expenses for those courses.

I know business related education expenses are deductable, but this freelance job only provided a small percentage of the income that I made last year. Based on that fact is it safe to assume that those expenses are deductible?

Yes, if your continuing education was used primarily for the pursuit of income as a contractor, you can deduct the expense.
