Question

Got rejection code IND-516 and i checked my SSN but its correct. I have no knowledge of anyone claiming me. Not sure what to do next

I double checked my SSN and it's correct. But it says that I may have been claimed already? I don't believe i was claimed by anyone i know. I want to fix this and get my tax return.

In a case like this where a taxing authority rejects an efile due to a social security number being used already, you will not be able to efile because you will continue to be rejected. There is no way of you knowing or finding out who used your SSN. It could have been intentional, (identity theft) or unintentional, (mistake). The only option you have is to print, sign, date and mail in your IND-516. If you have not printed your 2016 tax return, go to and click "My Account" at the top right of your screen. Select "Print Center" and print out what you need to mail.
