Question

Has anyone else ever experienced the "Hmm, looks like we hit a slight snag in this section" error message? If so how did you get past it?

There is nothing you can do.  The program is having a problem.  Sometimes there will be a message to be notified when it is working again.  All you can do is wait for the problem to get fixed.

Well TT 2023 is having a problem too.   It sucks.

Yup, I'm getting "hit a snag" in two places in TT 2023 Basic, Desktop Mac (fully updated):

1) Income Summary Page > Social Security (SSA-1099) > Update button.

2) Amazingly I also get it on the "Done with Other" button on the Other Tax Situations page. Sheesh!

The exact message is:

"Hmm, looks like we've hit a snag. We recommend you revisit the last topic you were working on to make sure all your info is correct."

Needless to say the suggestion that it is /my/ fault somehow is baseless and rechecking previous entries is to no avail. That [Sounds good] button gets offensive pretty fast. They should change that.

Can you please provide additional details about the issue you are experiencing? Where in the program are you and what are you trying to do when you get this message?

This is on the Federal Review page, after I have completely enter all my tax information without anything needs review. On the Federal Review page, it spun there for a long while and eventually just display the message "Hmm, looks like we hit a slight snag in this section". This problem has been here for more than a week now. I have tried clear cache, using different browsers including Chrome and Edge, even different computers. Please resolve this problem ASAP since it's getting closer to file deadline!

I've gotten this "snag" message in my federal review. Every time I try to answer any of the 7 questions it wants me to look over it always ends with this message.  Just stuck here with no way to get past it. I've cleared caches, tried 3 different browsers on 2 different computers and nothing seems to do the trick.

It is a TurboTax problem and not something you can fix.  You just have to wait until TurboTax fixes it.

The year is 2024 and I'm still facing the same problem...

I'm having the same issue when I tried to pay Audit defense using credit card "Hmm... it looks like we’ve hit a slight snag" pops up and won't let me pay it.

Are you still experiencing this problem? You might try turning off your pop-up blocker.

Make sure you have ran all updates.

It took me 5 hours 7 employees and like 9 phone calls to figure this one out. Its a problem with your account and only billing can fix it. Luckly Erica my last live help assistant was able to nail down the issues and get in contact with them. Save yourself my headache and loss of a an afternoon off and just get help from a live agent and tell them it's a problem with billing hopefully you will get Erica.

I'm trying to pay the audit defense via credit card and every time I tried this always pops up "Hmm... it looks like we’ve hit a slight snag"

Is this error pops up on you when you pay audit defense as well?

If you are still experience the issue, please call Customer Service and tell them you have a "block payment issues, possibly due to billing or an invalid license" and the agent should be able to help you. Here is how you reach customer service:  Turbo Tax Customer Service

As of January 25th 2025, I am encountering this message constantly. It pops up when updating the "Personal Info" Section, it pops up during the Federal Taxes section, and even in the State Taxes section (we don't HAVE state taxes!).

I'm using a new computer I bought this year, which is on the latest OS update, I've tried using 3 different browsers... nothing works. Just the infuriating "Oops..." error message. Now shopping for alternative software options.

You can try calling the TurboTax customer service number:

 https://ttlc.intuit.com/turbotax-support/en-us/help-article/account-management/turbotax-phone-number/L0Od33nMQ_US_en_US?uid=m6f4a1yc

However, I wasted two hours of my life and all they ended up was telling me to open the form and fill in the data directly,  I started that process in early January and still no progress.

Is this a Mac Desktop issue or does it happen on a PC as well?  In either case, TT has gotten progressively worse over the past several years and I see all the signs of cost cutting and inability to retain talent. They are also pushing the on-line usage, which I refuse to use.

Please let us know what alternatives you have found.

I was able to resolve the issue!

Called support.

First they had me close turbo tax desktop app.

Download and run this

Link to TurboTax Page

Remove just the problematic state.

Close that out. Reopen Turbo Tax Desktop app.

It had me redownload stuff. But Same issue (adding steps in case it helps others)

What I think helped was me adding the billing info on intuit portal:

https://accounts.intuit.com/app/account-manager/paymentMethods

I didnt have a payment method. Make sure to add shipping and billing address!

Tried logging in and out, restarting PC, closing and open Turbo Tax software. Still didn't work.

Called support, and they bought the state thing for me $45 plus tax (ofc). Since I had the payment method on the portal they just asked for the cvv. Closed Turbo tax and reopenned it, one download later and bingo!

Also the state wasn't in the dropdown anymore. instead there was a new box area and I checked the checkbox and clicked Continue and it allowed me to start filling for that State. The state refund automatically appeared as well.

So def a problem with the billing on the backend. idk why

Good luck!!

(if link doesn't work then search "TTCleanStatesTool.zip" or "State install/e-file update loop: State not installed after installation or TurboTax needs to update prior to e-file")
