In the 30+ years I have been e-filing tax return using TurboTax with taxes owed in probably 10 of those years the IRS has Always debited by account on the date I requested.

There can only be two reasons the IRS did not debit your account on the date requested -

  1. The bank routing and account numbers entered were not correct
  2. The funds were not available in the bank account to pay the taxes owed

Go to this IRS website for information on Electronic Funds Withdrawal - https://www.irs.gov/payments/pay-taxes-by-electronic-funds-withdrawal

  • Call IRS e-file Payment Services 24/7 at 888-353-4537 to inquire about or cancel your payment, but please wait 7 to 10 days after your return was accepted before calling.
  • Cancellation requests must be received no later than 11:59 p.m. ET two business days prior to the scheduled payment date.
  • If a payment is returned by your financial institution (e.g., due to insufficient funds, incorrect account information, closed account, etc.) the IRS will mail a Letter 4870 to the address we have on file for you, explaining why the payment could not be processed, and providing alternate payment options.
  • In the event your financial institution is unable to process your payment request, you will be responsible for making other payment arrangements, and for any penalties and interest incurred.

You can make a payment for taxes owed using the IRS payment website using Direct Pay - https://www.irs.gov/payments

another possibility. did you get an e-mail that your return was accepted? if not then it's possible that you never successfully e-filed,
