Question

Has TurboTax fixed the software issue causing rejection of federal returns for an IRA-related issue?

Was anyone else's federal return rejected for an IRA-related issue even though everything was correct? Mine was rejected twice, and TurboTax then said it was the result of a bug in their system that has been fixed.

Has anyone (who was initially rejected) tried re-filing after the supposed fix? Any idea what the issue was originally?

I would recommend deleting the 1099R then re-entering it manually then re-submitting your return.  The only IRA related issues have been with inherited IRAs, QCD, RMD, and getting the new form 8915E integrated into TurboTax.   After you have logged in and are in your return in TurboTax Online:

  • Go to Search at the top of the screen.
  • Enter Form 1099-R in the search box.
  • You will see a Jump To function that will take you to the 1099-R input screens.
  • Delete the 1099R in question by clicking on the trash can next to the form
  • Then add a new 1099R and manually enter your 1099R.

At the financial services screens, click "Change how I enter my form" then "Type it myself"

The 1099 Series are informational reporting forms submitted to the IRS by third parties. The IRS then matches the form information to your tax return to insure all income is reported and taxed. If you do not include a 1099 received from a third party on your tax return, you will receive a notice from the IRS asking why. This is the CP2000 matching notice. If you receive this notice from the IRS, make sure and respond by the date indicate on the notice.
