Hello i am behind a year with my 2018 taxes and i am trying to file am i able to do that now? its pulling as 2019

The Online version is only to file the current years tax return, which right now is 2019. You cannot file a 2018 return Online.

To file your 2018 with TurboTax, you would need the 2018 Desktop software (which is installed on your computer). Prior year returns must be mailed.

You can also go to the IRS & State websites for prior year forms to manually fill out & mail.

For tax years 2018, 2017, or 2016

You'll need to purchase and download the TurboTax software for PC or Mac as TurboTax Online and the mobile app are only available for the current tax year.

After installing the software, open it and follow the onscreen instructions.

Prior year returns must be paper-filed, as e-filing is no longer available. We'll walk you through that process when you get to the File section in the software.

The online version of TurboTax is only good for the current tax filing year. As of the date of this post, the current tax filing year is 2019.

To file or amend a 2018 or earlier tax return you *MUST* use the CD version of the program and physically install it on your Windows or MAC computer.

If you used the online version of TurboTax 2018 to complete and *SUCCESSFULLY* file your 2018 tax return, then log into the same account you used to complete and file that 2018 tax return, and select the option for filing a ***PRIOR**** year tax return. You "SHOULD" be taken to the page to download the CD version of TurboTax 2018. If you are not, then stop here. You have NO CHOICE but to contact TurboTax customer support for help in getting the CD version of TurboTax 2018.

If you did "in fact" use the CD version of Turbotax to complete and file your 2018 tax return, then start the TurboTax 2018 program and *DO* click on your 2018 tax file to open it.

Once the tax file is opened, then in the upper right corner of the program select the option for "Forms Mode". In the right column under "Forms in my return" look for and click on "Form 1040X" to select it. You "MUST" be able to see the 1040X on your screen. If you can see it, then at the bottom left of that form is a button labeled "DELETE FORM". Click that button, followed by YES to delete the 1040-X.

Now completely close and exit the TurboTax 2018 program and when prompted to save the file, click the YES button to save the .tax2018 file.

Now start the TurboTax program again, and ***DO NOT*** click on your 2018 tax return to open it. Instead, scroll down and click the button labeled "AMEND A FILED RETURN". After you click the "AMEND A FILED RETURN" button, then you can click on your tax return to open it, and start the amending process.

Yes, you can file your 2018 tax return. However, you cannot do this using the TurboTax app or online product.

You will need to purchase the 2018 tax software and download it to a computer to prepare your return to file by mail. You can find the available 2018 TurboTax products here: TurboTax 2018 Products.
