Hello, if my daughter and granddaughter live with me and I claim them both because my daughter made less then $4000 required to not be a dependent would she still have to file an income tax on her own

It does not sound like your daughter would be required to file a tax return if she made less than $4,000 in 2019.  However, if her employer(s) withheld any taxes from her pay she may benefit from filing to claim a refund of those withholdings.

 

She should check Box 2 of Form W-2 to see if there was any withholding. If there was, she should file to get a refund. If she wants to file a tax return for a refund of withholding, I suggest that she file for free at this link: FreeFile Powered by TurboTax.
