Question

Hello, There is an "other income" (RTAA payment on schedule 1 line 8-Z) that shouldn't be there. It was accounted for in line 7. How can I remove this?

I received both unemployment and Paid family leave from CA EDD in 2024. I reported both incomes in 1099 G but the unemployment income was accounted for twice (2nd time as other income "RTAA") on schedule 1. How can i remove it?

RTAA would be reported as "other Income" on Schedule 1 line 8z and Unemployment is listed on line 7.

To clarify, Did you get BOTH unemployment AND RTAA?

Did one of the payment amounts double?

This has also happened to me.  I have reported an amount on Schedule 1, line 7, but it shows up again in line 8Z titled RTAA Payment.  Double counts the amount in Line 7.  How can I delete line 8Z?  thank you

RTAA payments are reported on line 8z of the tax return and line 7 is for unemployment income. According to the Department of Labor, the RTAA is Reemployment Trade Adjustment Assistance, this TAA Program benefit is a wage supplement that is available to reemployed workers age 50 and older for up to two years and covers a portion of the difference between a worker’s new wage and their old wage (up to a specified maximum amount). A/RTAA signifies two different benefits, Alternative Trade Adjustment Assistance or ATAA (enacted under the 2002 Program), and Reemployment Trade Adjustment Assistance (enacted under the 2009 Program and reauthorized under the 2011 and 2015 Programs, RTAA replaced ATAA). As is the case for TRA, eligibility for ATAA or RTAA is dependent on which version of the TAA Program the worker is covered under, which can be determined by the petition number of the certification of the worker group."

If you did not receive RTAA, you can remove it in TurboTax:

    1. Sign in to TurboTax Online
    2. Click Federal Taxes,
    3. Click Wage and Income and then go to the section called 1099-MISC and Other Common Income and click show more.
    4. Select delete next to Other 1099-G income to enter your RTAA payments.

I had the exact same problem with my tax form. My Unemployment income was duplicated on line 8-Z just like yours. What I did was remove the form and start fresh. But this time instead of posting a photo of the 1099-G form, I just entered the info in manually and it worked. It removed that duplicated income and my refund went up dramatically. I also filled in the State again below the locality section. Hope this helps.
