i collected  ssa benefits as my mother passed away

Do you have any other income or is the Social Security your only income?  If the SS is your only income you do not have to file a tax return.

 

If you did have other income then you will need to enter that income and enter the SSA1099.

 

 Go to Federal> Wages & Income>>Retirement Plans and Social Security  (SSA1099 and 1099RRB) to enter your SSA1099.

If you are referring to the lump sum death benefit of $255 paid to a relative upon a person's death, it is not taxable and does not need to be entered on your tax return.
