The IRS will begin accepting tax returns on February 12.  Until that time, the tax return that you filed will be in pending status.  You can only file taxes once per year. If your taxes are rejected when the IRS opens on February 12, then you can make changes and file them again.  But if they are accepted, it is just like you put them into a mailbox.  You cannot get them back and make changes.

After taxes are processed by the IRS, you can file an amendment to make any changes needed.

UPDATE:  This is now a way to get your return sent back to you so you can remove the recovery credit.
