Question

Hi there,I submitted both my federal and state tax returns and they were accepted. I haven't been charged for the state payment yet. Is that normal?

I pay each year and the federal one has already been charged to my bank account.

You must pay your state tax due using the state’s preferred method of receiving payment.  For most states that will be by making a payment to the state’s own tax website, or by mailing a check or money order.

Just in case anyone else looks at this question.

The answer provided above is incorrect, I ended up paying twice and am now out several thousand dollars that I needed.

I recommend anyone who has questions to find a way to actually contact turbo tax or get an accountant. Don’t end up like me listening to a stranger on the internet.

How did you pay twice?   You can either pay through TurboTax or pay directly to the tax authority.   When you use TurboTax Online, you have TurboTax fees for using the software, one federal tax return and you may have a state tax return(s).    You can pay the IRS and your state through the IRS website or your state's DOR site.   Or you can pay through TurboTax and we will forward the payment information to the appropriate agency.    The take the money at different times.   I have had my federal payment take 4 weeks to process while my state took my payment the next day - even though I paid them at the same time, 5 minutes apart.

To pay your TurboTax fees, we accept credit, debit, and pre-paid cards with a Visa, MasterCard, American Express, or Discover logo.   When it comes to your taxes, you have options.   But those options are different for the IRS (federal) and your state.   Each state has its own rules and TurboTax will show you those options when you file.

Each of your tax returns has a Return Summary and/or a Filing Instruction page.    You can see what you scheduled or paid (for TAXES) through TurboTax on one of those pages - they will be included in your saved or printed copy of your tax return(s).    Check these pages in the state return that you paid twice for.
