When I try to pay for my state eFile with a credit card I get this error.  I see that there were several people who had the same issue last year, so apparently it has not been fixed.

I am using TurboTax Home & Business 2024 that I downloaded on Windows 10 PC.

I was on the customer service line last night for 1.5 hours and I'm currently on customer service line today.

Please call Customer Service and tell them you have a "block payment issues, possibly due to billing or an invalid license" and the agent should be able to help you. Here is how you reach customer service:  Turbo Tax Customer Service

After another hour plus on the phone today, the customer service person told me my product key is invalid.  She said it was used by another person and then returned.  I don't know why TurboTax didn't tell me the product key was invalid when I first installed it.  I bought the TurboTax from a non-authorized seller, so I was told to go back to the seller to request a refund and re-purchase the software at an authorized seller.

i have similar problem and my issue remains after talking to Intuit Support today for 2hr13min. my software was purchased online with BigHome.

Customer service was focusing on issues with my credit card, billing address, etc.  I kept repeating what CatinaT1 wrote: "Please call Customer Service and tell them you have a "block payment issues, possibly due to billing or an invalid license" and the agent should be able to help you."  Then I asked them to check my software license key.  When they did check, they said it was registered in another person's name and then returned, so it is invalid.  I don't know how a license key can be returned and re-sold.  And I don't know why TurboTax doesn't immediately tell the user that the license key is invalid when it is first entered during install.

I suggest you ask customer service to check your license key.  That was my problem and a new key fixed the problem.

They offered to sell me a new one and sent me a discount email, but I ended up re-buying it from Amazon.com for cheaper than the discounted price from Intuit.

Finally, I found a fix (fox me).

Just use Pay By Phone to get through!

I don't see where the 'pay by phone' option is hidden.

I had the same problem

** I fixed it calling TurboTax and (Help-->pay by phone) the $25 for State e-filling for my Turbotax Premier.

** THANKS to the users who posted the soulution before me

** I bought it at Guifff.com.  I did a search before and nobody marked it as a bad site

NOW,  to all who say it is our bad.  **I disagree**

Intuit is a company with $14.37 Billion in revenue This is $14,370 Million!!!

They have one main product, Turbotax. it is their responsibility to make it is reliable on every phase.
We use them because we believe they are reliable, if we feel they are not, we would use a different provider. The customer experience is important to keep user trust on the service.

They could have implemented many different validation processes. If the activation-key was not valid (and it is not clear if it was, or was not valid) they had to deny my registration since the beginning. If the key was already associated with another account, they had to notify me immediately. If the other account used the key after me, he had to be notified, and I should have received a warning.  Anyway, if they had promptly notified the issue, than I could have blocked the payment to Guiffin.com on my CreditCard. There are a lot of options to make the process more secure, and form a $15B company I expect they do not fail on the very basic steps.

I got the same issue. I purchased from Guifff. I was on the phone with Intuit for couple of hours. nothing! return it to merchant and come buy from us. or pay and do it on intuit online! they should automaticaly block the key or at least notify you before you spend hours or days inputting all the info.  the pay by phone option is nowhere to be found on Mac version if anyone has a fix, please share!

More importantly, why doesn't Intuit shut down companies from selling Turbotax if (1) they know about them, and (2) they aren't authorized? And why don't they implement a password-per-serial number so that only the authorized user can install Turbotax (others wouldn't know your password)? Seems to me that Intuit just doesn't care if their customer base thinks they're buying from an authorized reseller and actually are being scammed. Not very polite!

For those who ordered from Big Home Tax, I have the fix.

Text them at [phone number removed] and they will send you a new license code.

Then go to Help on the toolbar
Select "switch product"
Then select "activate new product"

Turbotax software will close and you need to re-open TTax and enter the new license.

once I did that, I was able to fill out the payment informatio an de-file my state taxes.

Thanks so much! I contacted Big Home as you suggested, got a new serial number and it worked.

Text Big Home Tax at the number listed on their website, for a new activation code.

I spent 2+ hrs on the phone with TurboxTax support.  They gave me endless "codes" that didn't work.  I hung up and figured it out.

Go to: Help ->  "Pay by Phone" ->  "State eFile" and call 1-877-559-8824 (do not call Turbo Tax support - they do not know how to resolve it).  The SALES person will take your information and give you a correct "State eFile Confirmation Number" to file.

I'm having the same problem.  Can Intuit fix this?? It's April 13.  This is terrible.  I have checked my payment information and tried to efile for the last 2 hours.  Nothing works.

April 13, 2025

Read the posts in the thread. If you bought it from BigHome you can text them and they will give you a code that should work. If you didn't, try the pay by phone option. I'm not sure where to find this. Or if you're getting a refund, use that to pay.

i called intuit support and resolved the issue in < 5min. i was trying to file for state tax, and the payment was blocked, so the support person asked me to use a different menu to submit payment, i gave her my cc number over the phone, she made the payment and gave me a code to enter, then submitted the state tax return successfully.
