I mailed my 2021 amended tax return to the IRS with the required documents. It took 5 months for it to be processed at which time they mailed me a refund check. My mail was being forwarded to my home in Florida as I spend the winter months there. I knew the refund check would not be forwarded to me. Several months later, after the check was returned to the IRS, I called them and gave them my "temporary" Florida address. At my request, they mailed the check to my Florida address. I checked my IRS online account and they show my Florida address as my permanent address.  I am a resident of NJ and my Florida address is a temporary address. My 2022 tax return as well as all my past year tax returns have my NJ address. Do I have to tell the IRS to change my address to my NJ address? Thank you.

No, you do not need to call and tell the IRS.  When you file your return, the IRS will use the address on your return to send any correspondences or checks.  If you are expecting a refund and routinely have a different address, then you may want to consider getting your refund via direct deposit.

Even if you are printing and mailing your return, you can use Direct Deposit by entering your banking info on the 1040.
