You do not indicate whether you are a W-2 employee or if you are self-employed.  If you are a W-2 employee you cannot deduct anything for your home office on your federal return.

If you are self-employed and claiming a home office, you enter the date you started using that home office for your business. Doesn't matter if it was 10 years ago either.

If you are a W-2 employee and attempting to claim a home office for your W-2 job, don't bother. W-2 job related expenses including a home office, are no longer deductible.

Hello, I am doing my self employment taxes for the first time and I need some help.

I work from home do I add the entire rent for the year and do I put the date when I started working from home in my new location?
