Question

How can I determine if someone issued a 1099 MISC to me from 2017 (if I haven't received it, or filed my return yet)?

Is there a way to determine if someone issued a 1099 MISC from 2017, if I haven't filed my tax return for that year yet (am completing it now).  I suspect someone may have incorrectly issued one, sent it to the IRS, but did not mail it to me. (Long story relating to an ugly parting of the ways with a former business partner).

I signed up on the IRS support website where I can request 'Wage and Income" transcripts, but I see no record of one there.

Is it possible for me to see any 1099 MISC issued in a year where I have not yet filed my tax return? If one does not show up there, does it mean one has never been issued to me for that year?

You went to the right place; If there was a 1099 issued to you, IRS would include it in your wage & earnings transcript. https://www.irs.gov/tax-topics/topic-no-159-how-to-get-a-transcript-or-copy-of-form-w-2

Thank you Rainman12. Is it safe to assume then that no one has issued a 1099 MISC to me (as of today) if it does not show up in the IRS transcript for that year?
