How can you take off an educational credit?

We qualify for the American Opportunity Credit for my children's college expenses.  But the credit does not reduce our taxes by very much.  I want to take off the educational credit and use the expenses as a deduction instead.  Does anyone know how to do this?

The Tuition and Fees deduction expired on December 31, 2020. That is why you weren't automatically given that option in TurboTax.
