Question

How do I apply my IL 2019state tax overpayment to my IL 2020 return rather than getting a refund?

Go to your state interview section.

 

Continue through the screens until you see the screen titled A few things before we wrap up your state taxes.  Select Estimate tax payments for next year.

 

Go through each screen and answer the questions.  

You will reach a screen that says Apply Overpayment. 

 

Be sure to select Apply All.  This will allow you to apply your overpayment from 2019 to your 2020 tax return.
