How do I bypass control number box d option while filing online

Box d of your W-2 is the control number. A Control Number is used by many payroll departments to uniquely identify a W-2 in their system. If your W-2 doesn't have one, you will still be able to e-file. 

If you get errors when attempting to import your W-2 with an empty box D, select Skip import and manually enter your W-2. 

If you want to manually enter your W-2 info, please follow the instructions below: 

1. From Tax Home, open or continue your return
2. In the search bar, search for W-2
3. Select the Jump to link at the top of the search results
4. At the Let's get your W-2 info screen, select Work on my W-2 and Continue
   • If you land on the Here’s your W-2 info screen, select Add another W-2
5. When asked to enter your employer's EIN, leave this section blank and Continue
6. On the next screen, select Type it in myself and Continue
7. Follow the instructions on the next screens to manually enter your W-2 info
