I started the return under the wrong e-mail address / account.  It was rejected by the IRS.  I re-submitted the return under the correct e-mail / account and it was accepted.

No, you don't need to do anything else to resolve the situation.

If your return was rejected and you don't make a correction in the same account, the information will just disappear after the tax filing deadline. It's as if you never filed it at all.

Be sure use the correct account when you file in 2024.

So----you used a different account -- prepared the return again--and e-filed it?   There is nothing for you to do with the "old" account or return.   it will not go anywhere.   You can just abandon the account.  Keep track of the accounts and user ID's you have so that you use the right account next time.  You will want to be able to transfer the right 2023 tax file in to your 2024 return next year.

If I have a rejected return and wait after the tax filing deadline for it to disappear, will I receive my refund for paying to file?

No, you do not get a refund for that.  You can fix a rejected return and re-file it or you can print, sign and mail it.

You received an email that we cannot see that tells you why your tax return was rejected.

Some rejected returns can be fixed and re-filed.  Some have “un-fixable” reasons for the rejection and have to be mailed instead.

What is the rejection code or rejection message?

If it was rejected for AGI—-your 2022 AGI might not be in the IRS system if you filed late.   Try using zero instead.

If filing with zero is rejected then file again but select the option that you did not file last year.  The IRS does not see that question and it will allow you to e-file with no AGI question.

If that does not work and you still cannot e-file, then print, sign, and mail your tax return.
