How do I change my status from married to single without starting all over?

In the 'My Info' section I cannot delete my ex-spouse.

If you are no longer legally married you need to create a new account with a new User ID to file as Single. Your current account cannot be purged completely of your ex-spouse's information.

Were you divorced before the end of 2024? You cannot use Single as your filing status if you were still legally married in 2024.

If you were divorced by the end of 2024 and now are filing Single, it is best to start a new account with a new user ID. It is too messy and difficult to remove the embedded "spouse stuff" from an account that was used for past joint returns.
