You need to give your employer a new W4 to change the withholding.

 

For your tax return it doesn't matter what you claim at work.  Your  W4, W2 and paychecks don't have to match your tax return.  Just don't enter any dependents on your tax return.

I’m not sure, I think I’ve been claiming 1 even though I shouldn’t be because I don’t have anyone to claim.

Sorry guys I know I’m not making total sense, I’m only 20 so this is all kinda foreign to me still. It’s just when I get taxes back I barely get anything and my grandma thinks it’s because I’m claiming a dependent idk. So I tried to look today and it said I was claiming 1 of something

If you don't get much refund but also don't owe, it means you are probably having just the right amount withheld. You get to spend more of your income during the year rather than giving the government more of your income during the year and then getting it back without interest when you file your tax return. However, if you would rather get a larger refund, decrease the number of allowances you claim on your W-4.
