Hi -- I dumped my Windows box 3 mos. ago (after it crashed on me) and am living happily ever after with an iMac M3. All my old TurboTax files are in the Windows format. Will the Mac version of Turbortax recognize them, or do I have to something else to convert them? Thanks. -- David

The tax data files and the PDF's are compatible with either a Windows or Mac TurboTax program.

If you have the tax data files, which have a file extension of .taxyyyy where yyyy is the tax year, eg .tax2022 for tax year 2022 those can be transferred to the 2023 tax return when you start a New Tax Return using the 2023 TurboTax software for a Mac

Fantastic, thanks. That's the answer I was hoping for.

To transfer a Windows tax file to Mac:

  1. Find last year's tax file and copy it to a removable device like a thumb drive or flash drive.
  2. On your Mac, copy the tax file from the device to your desktop.
  3. Open TurboTax for Mac and choose File New Tax Return.
  4. Select Begin.

See this TurboTax help article for more information.
