You enter the Social Security number in the Personal Information section of the tax return.

For the online editions click on My Info on the left side of the online program.  Edit your name if your SSN is incorrect.  Then e-file the tax return again.

The Social Security number is entered by the user--not by TurboTax.    Your SSN is entered in My Info.   If you entered the wrong SSN, then go to My Info, click edit by your name and correct it.

If your return is still being rejected for the SSN, then you will have to print, sign and mail your return.

I've used the product for years and I always upload everything from the previous year. This year when I tried to file it was rejected due to incorrect SSN.

@Susan72600 If you have checked My Info and your SSN is correct there, then the rejection is happening because someone else has used your SSN and filed a return, perhaps on purpose or maybe by mistake.   That rejection is coming from the IRS.   You cannot overcome a SSN rejection, so you cannot e-file.    Print, sign and mail your tax return.  Expect processing to take a long time.

When you mail a tax return, you need to attach any documents showing tax withheld, such as your W-2’s or any 1099’s.  Use a mailing service that will track it, such as UPS or certified mail so you will know the IRS/state received the return.

Federal and state returns must be in separate envelopes and they are mailed to different addresses.  Read the mailing instructions that print with your tax return carefully so you mail them to the right addresses.
