How do I file a joint return? The form that comes up is for a single individual.

We filed jointly last year, but he died in Jan. 2016

Condolences on the loss of your spouse.

Yes, you may choose the filing status of "Widowed" and enter the year of death (see screenshots below - click to enlarge).

This filing status allows you to include income for your spouse, like a joint return.

To change your filing status, click on the Personal Info tab, and click "Edit" beside your name. Continue to the screen "Let's Confirm Your Marital Status" and choose "Widowed." The question about year of loss will then open.
