Question

How do I file only the State portion? I used CreditKarma and they only accepted my Federal since I'm filing separately in CA. I just need to file my State but can't?!!

No. The TurboTax state program is designed to transfer information from your federal return. For this reason, TurboTax state isn't sold as a standalone tax-preparation product.

No.   You cannot use TurboTax to file a stand alone state return.   The information flows from the federal return to the state return in this software.  If you cannot file a state return using the same software you used for your federal return, then you could use  copy of your federal return for information you need and try to prepare and file a state return using forms available from the state's tax web site.

There is a way.  You can't prepare just state.  You need to fill out federal first and pay any fees to do state.  Then say to mail both and just mail state.

And you can not efile state unless the Federal was also efiled from the same account and accepted.  Read this whole FAQ
