Your employer's state ID number is in box 15 of your W-2, after the two-letter state abbreviation. If it's not there, ask your employer what their state ID number is.

If you don't have your W-2 yet, you have to wait until you get it. They have until January 31 to send it to you. You can't file your tax return until you get your W-2. The amounts on your W-2 might be different from your pay stubs, and there is information on the W-2 that you can't get from your pay stubs.
