How do I know if IRS got my payment? My 2020 Federal tax return was accepted by the IRS but the payment has not been debited from my account yet, I paid upon efile.

I paid the IRS with my debit, my tax return was accepted by the IRS today-BUT my payment has not yet debited from my account, I just want to make sure the IRS gets their payment from me. I paid the amount with card when I e-filed and payment day to IRS was set to post today. Thusfar it has not posted. I am therefore a bit concerned, I don't want to get hit with penalties bc the system messed up or something and did not properly debit my account.

Keep checking, the IRS should collect payment once the return has been accepted.

My 2020 Federal Return was Accepted and my tax payment has not yet been debited from bank account. It has been 5 days since it was accepted. How long should I keep checking until the tax payment has been debited?

You were able to select the date that the balance due got taken out. You can view your balance and payment activity on the IRS Paying Your Taxes site. Please be aware, this year you have time to pay your balance due until May 17. If it hasn't been taken out by May 16, then you have the option to pay the amount due online at the IRS Paying Your Taxes site.
