How do I make sure my filed return includes estimated tax payments I made in 2016? If they aren't included, I owe money, if they are, they owe me money...

To enter estimated taxes paid (Federal, State, Local) -

  • Click on Federal Taxes (Personal using Home and Business)
  • Click on Deductions and Credits
  • Click on I'll choose what I work on (if shown)
  • Scroll down to Estimates and Other Taxes Paid
  • On Estimates, click on the start or update button

Or enter estimates paid in the Search box located in the upper right of the online program screen.  Click on Jump to estimates paid

If your federal tax return has already been filed then you need to look on the return if the estimated tax payments were included.  On the Form 1040 Line 65,  on Form 1040A Line 41.
