How do you eFile a 1040-SR which has no earned income - just has SSI?

Turbo Tax doesn't allow me to eFile 1040-SR saying I have no earned income.    Most people 65 or older will just have SSI.  Why can't we eFile as well?

The IRS e-file system will not accept a return with $0 of Adjusted Gross Income.  This restriction is imposed by the IRS systems, not TurboTax.

One way to work around this issue is to add $1 of interest income, which will give the return $1 of Adjusted Gross Income, but no tax due.

Most taxpayers with interest-bearing accounts will have at least $1 of interest each year to report, even if they did not receive documents to this effect.  This is added in TurboTax under Wages & Income and then Interest and Dividends.

if you only have SSI there's no need to file.    the IRS will use the infomation from the Social Security Adm to send you a check if you don't have direct deposit set up with the SSA.  if you have no income and hence haven't filed returns and don't get Soc Sec benefits, the IRS will shorty announce the procedures for you will need to follow to get the check or direct deposit
