    If you make enough money, the answer is one (1) day - NY does not have have a time or income threshold for subjecting NY-sourced income to NY tax law.

     

    You may not owe tax or even have to file a return, but it only takes one day of working in NY to find yourself subject to NY tax.

    NY  strictly enforces this position for very high-earners, such as professional athletes, professional entertainers, and corporate executives.
