How to delete a specific income item online amendment

I am asking on behalf of my nephew.  I have been helping with his taxes.

We filed a 2020 return and made some mistakes.

He is in Germany, I am in US.

We now wish to file an amendment, so we started that process.  Somewhere along the way during the amendment process we entered an amount of $342 as foreign income.  A 2555 form was generated because of that.

Then we realized we should not have entered that 342 since it was not earned.

So, TurboTax deleted the 2555, but the 342 income item remains.  We CANNOT get rid of it.

It shows up on the "allforms" PDF file as "foreign income" and is sprinkled thru the "allforms" 38 times.

It only appears on the 1040 (the 1040 part of the amendment) on Line 1 as "wages, salaries, tips, etc".

Please, How do we remove it from this online TurboTax process.

We have tried to "cancel" the amendment and it cancels but remembers all the entries.

We hesitate to "clear" the taxes as we may lose the original filing that we want to amend.

A bug for sure, but is there a way around this?

Unfortunately, unlike the desktop version, I cannot just delete some file somewhere.

Thanks ---- I hope.

It sounds counterintuitive but the best thing to do is:

  1. add back the 2555 foreign income form. Go through it, make program happy that all the parts are back together and make sense.
  2. Then go back to the 2555 again and take out the income.
  3. Continue through.
  4. Eliminate all entries of the income.
  5. This should give you a blank 2555. Now you can safely delete the 2555 so that all the information stays gone. The program will not delete something it finds valuable.
  6. See How to Delete and get rid of anything left that should not be there.
  7. Log out.
  8. Clear cache and cookies,
  9. Sign in using a different browser.
  10. Log back into your return.
