If I can efile 1099-NEC using self-employed turbotax, do I also need to attach & efile 1096 form (as it is usually required if 1099-NEC filed by mail to IRS).

Turbo Tax does it for you.  The Quick Employer Forms is separate from your tax return.  Quick Employer Forms only efiles the 1099NEC and 1096 for you.

To prepare W2s and 1099s in the Online Self Employed version you have to first start your personal return. Then when you log in you select Take me to my Return. Then the next screen should be the Welcome Back screen. At the bottom under Manage your Return it says Create W2s and 1099s. This will take you to the QEF Quick Employer Forms.

If you are already in your return you can log out and back in again to get to the beginning screen.

Or in your return, Anywhere on any screen you see

Help me prepare and file W-2s and 1099s

Click on it and the side box will open, Then click on Quick Employer Forms in the side box.

The Quick Employer Forms only supports e-filing of the forms with the IRS and Social Security Administration. Copy A of the Form 1099 and W-2 are only used for e-filing and are not provided for printing.

TT desktop Business, completed 1096 but cannot find how to e-file it  Probably operator to keyboard error, but after reviewing the return, and clicking done, there is no option to "send" nor confirmation of a time/date stamp like the other TT programs do?

Thank you,

In the Windows Business program you can prepare W2 & 1099 on your computer using the built in W2/1099 Reporter or online using the Quick Employer Forms.  Which did you use?  The Online Quick Employer Forms efiles the forms.  If you do them on your computer you have to mail the forms to the IRS yourself.
