How will the irs know which parent to send the stimulus check to for a child who’s parents alternate claiming him? His Dad claimed him last year but he lives w/ me

Hard to say at this time. I'm sure the IRS will address this and other special situations in the near future. 

Although the checks are being mailed soon, the credit is for tax year 2020, so I ASSUME that whomever can claim the child on their 2020 tax return will be the Taxpayer that gets to 

keep the money if they received the check in the first place

gets the credit on their 2020 return if they did not get the check, in which case the other parent (if they received the check) would need to pay it back. 

It has not been made clear by the IRS yet.
