HSA excess contribution, incorrect filing

I had excess HSA contribution in 2022. I incorrectly filed in 2022 return  with "no I am not going to make this withdrawal" instead of "I will withdraw the full excess contributions by April 18" which was my intention. I did the withdrawal the full amount before the deadline. I just realized this mistake while filing the 2023 TT.  How do I fix this? 2023 TT still thinks I have the excess amount from 2022. Do I need to file a 2022 amendment ? Please help

Yes, you must amend your 2022 tax return and remove from 2023 TurboTax the amount indicated as the excess carried in from 2022.

Your amendment for 2022 must include a corrected Form 8889 and a corrected From 5329.  The corrected Form 5329 must show zeros where it originally showed the excess contribution and its penalty.
