Husband passed away a little over two years ago. No estate or probate opened due to assets being under the limit. I recieved two 1099-C on cancelled debt in his name and social security. Do I have to claim this on my taxes for 2022 filings on my

    No, you do not have to claim the 1099-C in your husband's name and social security number. If he had an estate, the estate would be responsible for paying the tax on the income. In the absence of an estate, you have nothing to report.

    What do I need to do with these two 1099-c on him?  Just keep them with my taxes or do I send them to the irs as I know the creditor sent a copy to them as well?  Do I file single head of household since I have my daughter and grand kids to claim.  Of which are no relation to my deceased husband. Thank you so much for your time.  I appreciate your assistance.

    Since they were reported on a dead man's SS#  there is nothing you need to do with them ... the IRS knows your spouse is deceased.  

     

    Simply file as you normally would.
