Husband resident of NC and I am a resident of NYC

This past year my husband switched employers and has moved full-time to North Carolina (NC). While he is residing full-time, I am still residing full-time in NYC with monthly visits to make it work seeing each other (still deciding on my transition and if this is something we want to do more permanently aka move to NC).

How does this, if at all, impact how we file our State Taxes/Federal Taxes?

It depends.  If you file separate federal and state returns, it does not affect anything.

His move does affect him in that he will need to file both a NY (assuming that is where he moved from) part year return and a NC part year return.

If you file federal joint returns, then he can file as married filing separately for NC so your income is not reported on that return since you do not live there.

You can also file as Married filing separate for your NY return since you have different residency statuses.
