I purchased Turbo Tax Premier 2022 and I had to download California state tax program.  When I was told I needed to purchase to complete my California taxes it said $25.  My credit card was charged $45?  What did I miss?

If you used the CD/download for your tax return, Premier included the software for preparing a state return.  But there is a $25 fee for e-filing the state return.  If you fell  into the tempting trap of having that $25 fee deducted from your federal refund, you also got charged the extra $45 "refund processing fee" so that a third party bank will receive your federal refund, extract your fee, and send the rest of the refund to you.  Wish you had asked some questions here before you did that.

    What is Refund Processing Service?

I understand the $25 file fee.  I had Oregon state taxes already and added California state tax for $25.  I was charged $45 to use  California tax program and not the $25 the screen said prior to accepting and buying it.

To add a second state tax return, other than the first state which was free to download, the charge for the state program is $45.

The $25 is the state e-file fee for any state tax return e-filed using the desktop editions.  This charge can be avoided by printing and mailing the state tax return.
