I am a non-citizen sharing a joint account with my mom (non-citizen, does not pay taxes). How do I distribute the interest on a 1099-INT which I'm the primary holder?

I'm under the student visa and she is not a citizen nor paying taxes. I'm wondering if I could just file the interest tax under my name since my name is on the 1099-INT and she doesn't have any SSN or anything like that

Since you first enter the US in 2011 on an F-1 visa, you are considered as a resident in 2018.  You are required to file a Form 1040 including the interest income if meet the filing requirements.  See below.  If your mother does not receive other income, she is not required to report this if not meeting the requirement.  You would just enter the amount on your return.

When did you first enter the US with the F visa?  Did you receive other income besides the interest?

Thank you! Questions: 1. Does the 1040 come along with TurboTax or it's a separate document to send to the IRS and 2. My mother does NOT receive other income so I'll just file the interest under my name to the IRS, right?
