I am a soccer referee who got a 1099-MISC, why is that considered a self employment activity, when it is not part of my everyone work?

Although this activity is only a side activity for you, income reported in box 7 of form 1099-MISC is considered as self-employment income by the IRS.

On the brighter side, you can deduct from this income all allowable related income such as car mileage, supplies, uniforms, etc...

You'll need to upgrade to TurboTax Self-Employed to report this income and claim expenses.
