You can only deduct your business expenses on your federal tax return if you are self-employed, as opposed to having your income reported on W-2 form. In that case, you enter your business income and expenses in the Self-employed income and expenses section of TurboTax, in the Your Income and Expenses area.

If you are salaried employed (W-2), then your business expenses may be deductible on your state return, but often they are not so you may want to check on that before you enter them in TurboTax.

You enter your employee business expenses in the Deductions and Credits section of TurboTax, then Employment Expenses, then Job-Related Expenses.
