I am claiming my son as a dependent. He worked in 19 and has his own W2. Does he file his taxes separate from me?

You do not report your son's income on your tax return. You can still claim him as a dependent if he did not provide more than half of his own support in 2019.

Your son is required to file a tax return if his wages on form w-2 are more than $12,200. However, even if wages are less than than $12,200, he can choose to file a tax return to get a refund of taxes withheld. He has to indicate on his return that he can be claimed as a dependent by someone else.
