Question

I am filing from New Zealand where I live with my New Zealand wife. As of June 2021, she is no longer working and is my dependent.

Can you please clarify your question and provide more information.

 

First, you don't claim your wife as a dependent.

How you claim a non-citizen spouse to your tax return depends on your spouse's residency status. Your spouse will be either a "resident alien" or a "nonresident alien."
